Milton Meltzer papers, 1955-1973.

Collection comprises primarily literary manuscripts and correspondence related to Milton Meltzer's work as an author and editor of books on American history for children and young people. Collection includes manuscripts for the following books, among others: Pictorial history of the Negro in America (1956); Mark Twain himself, a pictorial biography (1960); In their own words, a treasury of Negro history (1965); Time of trial, time of hope, the Negro in America, 1919-1941 (1966); and Langston Hughes, a biography (1968). Collection includes correspondence with Langston Hughes, Arna Bontemps, and Bernard Rapoport, as well as correspondence with publishers.
